Barton Lidice Benes Jars, 2010
Last year I became acquainted with the work of Barton Lidice Benes through his book Curiosa: Celebrity Relics, Historical Fossils, and Other Metamorphic Rubbish. On Friday January 7, 2011 a survey exhibition of his collages and constructions from the past twenty years opens at the Pavel Zoubok Gallery in New York City. Benes's constructions are collections that he has labelled and "curated" in plexiglas boxes. His work is thought-provoking, bizarre, and engaging. See it if you can.
